Install a WordPress plugin via the FTP server

To install the plugin via the FTP server, the downloaded ZIP file will need to be unzipped first.
Are you using MacOS? Then you can simply double click on the ZIP file and it will be unzipped automatically. Are you using Windows? Then you can use a program like WinRAR to extract the zip file.
This article uses the ' for WooCommerce' plugin as an example. The required actions are identical for other plugins.

  1. Login to your FTP-server and go to /wp-content/plugins/
  2. Drag the unzipped folder - in this example 'woosa-bol' - to the plugins folder on your FTP server
  3. Is the plugin fully uploaded to your FTP server? Then go to the backend of your WordPress website and click on Plugins
  4. Find the plugin you just installed - in this example ' for WooCommerce' - and click on Activate
